This Juban features a classical chrysanthemum pattern Rinzu silk with romantic rainbow colour base.
Juban was traditionally worn as underwear of kimono. Nowadays it is widely loved by kimono lovers who prefer casual way of wearing, because of its lightweight and versatility.
Chrysanthemum is a key art and cultural motif, playing a major part in traditional Chinese and Japanese poems and paintings. Regarded as 'the noble gentleman of all flowers' in China for thousands of years, Chrysanthemum is not only the emblem of the Imperial Family in Japan, it also symbolises royalty, longevity and rejuvenation.
The Chrysanthemum Festival is celebrated on the ninth day of the ninth month in the lunar calendar. It is an old Chinese custom that made its way to Japan and was adopted mainly at court. On that day, activities including drinking sake with chrysanthemum petals floating in it, which is believed to ward off malevolence and ensure a long life.
